HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION of Kitsap County

Hearing loss information, support, and advocacy

Harrison Hospital, Silverdale

Anyone with an interest in hearing loss issues is welcome at our meetings.  Our meetings are amplified and individual assistive listening units are available.  We will have beverages and small finger foods only.  The hospital cafeteria and vending machines are nearby if someone needs to eat a meal before or after our 1 PM meetings.

Free hearing loss information is available at every Hearing Loss Association of Kitsap County meeting:  brochures, handouts, newsletters and flyers that you may take home. Please do not take multiple copies so that our supplies remain available for others.

UPCOMING MEETINGS:

February 16th meeting will be about HLAA 2008 Convention information.  Don't Miss It!  June 12-15, 2008 at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Reno, Nevada.  The Hearing Loss Association of America convention is a highly interactive and accessible event for all people who are affected by hearing loss.  The program includes dynamic speakers, dozens of instructive workshops, and an informative research symposium.  Plus, our Exhibit Hall hosts a range of hearing loss related products, services and information.  When you're finished with the daily convention activities, there's plenty to do after-hours in Reno.  You don't even have to leave the convention site to experience the excitement of Reno.  The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino offers more than just gaming.  Family friendly, the resort provides a 50-lane bowling alley, an Aqua Golf Lake-top Driving Range, a golf simulator, a Funquest Family Entertainment Center—and more.  An exciting and educational convention program is being planned for our 23rd annual convention year, so be sure to visit the website often for updates.  Check www.hearingloss.org.

March 15th meeting:  Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center services and products available.

April 19th meeting:  general discussion of cochlear implants.

May 17th meeting:  Hearing Assistive Technology: hearing aids, phones, ALD's (assistive listening devices).

For More Assistance:

Online there is a wealth of information on hearing loss on our Hearing Loss Association of Washington website: www.hearingloss-wa.org and the national Hearing Loss Association of America website: www.hearingloss.org. If you don’t have a home computer, you can access this information free at Kitsap County Public Library branches where library staff members will assist you.

Tips for optimal communication at our meetings:  Use the portable microphone.  Face the group where your lips can be read before you start to speak.  Speak clearly and not too fast.  Signal if you can’t hear.  Guests please stand, face the group and introduce yourself when asked.
