HEARING LOSS AND THE MOVIES

Described and Captioned Media Program - The DCMP media library has over 4,000 free-loan described and captioned media titles available to registered members. Members can watch media online or order a DVD copy to be shipped to them. Funded by the US Department of Education. Administered by the National Association of the Deaf.

Insight Cinema Open Captioned Films. InSight Cinema ~ Where the Audience is Reading! Open captioned movies shown in a variety of theaters.

Motion Picture Access (MOPIX) Rear Window Captioning. Rear Window™ Captioning and DVS (descriptive video service) Theatrical™ were developed by The Media Access Group at Boston public broadcaster WGBH. Rear Window Captioning enables movie fans with hearing loss to enjoy a film via reflected captions that appear on a Plexiglas panel at the seat. Patrons sitting in the surrounding seats cannot see the captions. DVS Theatrical presents concise narration of visual cues, including scenery, facial expressions and silent movement of characters, through a FM or infrared system delivered to headsets. There is no additional charge to use the systems.

Always call the theater before you go to ensure they have the movie as advertised.
